本片继续由《招魂3》导演迈克尔·查韦斯执导，编剧大卫·莱斯利·约翰逊-麦戈德里克执笔，帕特里克·威尔森、维拉·法米加回归主演，温子仁、彼得·萨夫兰继续制片，影片剧情尚未公布。
《招魂》于2013年上映，以2000万美元的成本在全球获得了近3.2亿美元的票房，奠定了该系列的神话。除了主线系列，《招魂》宇宙还推出了《修女》《安娜贝尔》《哭泣女人的诅咒》等多部衍生作，使得该系列在全球的票房收入已超过21亿美元，《招魂》宇宙亦成为电影史上票房最高的恐怖系列之一。
