影片于12月16日正式上映，不仅收获高票房，口碑也不俗。烂番茄观众好评96%，猫眼电影9.2分，淘票票9.2分，豆瓣8.2分，迎来高分开局。为庆祝开画，在上映当天，上海外滩、成都天府双塔、武汉长江大桥等地的纷纷亮起阿凡达主题灯光秀，点亮了城市天际线，各地的户外裸眼3D更是吸引了大量路人驻足赞叹。
《阿凡达：水之道》由《阿凡达》原班人马打造，好莱坞最具影响力导演之一的詹姆斯·卡梅隆撰写剧本并担任导演。影片故事发生于十多年后，讲述杰克、奈蒂莉与下一代的冒险故事，以及潘多拉星球将面对的新危机。
