该剧改编自尾田荣一郎原作，讲述少年路飞踏上冒险，立志当“海贼王”的故事，网飞携手明日工作室(《越狱》、剧版《雪国列车》)打造。
从此前公布的信息来看，本季预计将讲述原作东海篇的内容，即从路飞、索隆、娜美、乌索普、山治五人相遇到前往伟大航线之间的剧情。本剧将于8月31日开播。
