该片的筹备过程超过10年，改编自James O’Barr的漫画书系列，1994年的原版电影《乌鸦》由李小龙之子李国豪主演，讲述了一个摇滚乐手和未婚妻被流氓杀害后的一年，摇滚乐手从坟墓中苏醒，并进行复仇的故事。片中所展现的哥特、摇滚、反英雄等元素备受影迷好评和喜爱。
原版电影原本是为李小龙之子李国豪量身打造的成名作，但令人唏嘘的是，1993年，28岁的李国豪在片场拍戏过程中因意外身亡，《乌鸦》就这样成为了他的遗作。
