"This story, reminiscent of the 1968 Czechoslovakia invasion, portrays the Czech mindset in a harsh and unforgiving light. A group of traveling actors perform a passion play in an unnamed village, but fear of an unknown danger causes chaos and reveals the ugliness of human behavior when threatened. The film's pivotal scene involves the rape of a woman by the self-proclaimed leader. Zdenuk Mahler, who assisted on Forman's film Amadeus, helped write the script. \n\nEvald Schorm (1929-1988) was a prominent figure in the Czech \"New Wave.\" Due to the \"normalization\" period, Schorm was unable to direct for many years. His final film, Killing with Kindness (1988), was completed during the end stages of Communism.
